IT SUPPORT

As an IT Support Specialist at 37Degrees Studio, you will play a critical role in maintaining our computer networks, delivering prompt technical support, and ensuring the studio operates efficiently and securely. Your efforts will help us uphold our high standards for system reliability, security, and compliance, enabling seamless workflows across our team.

NOTE: This position can be part-time with flexible hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, networks, printers, and scanners to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with the studio’s co-founders to plan and implement IT projects within agreed timeframes.
  • Monitor and maintain the performance and functionality of computer systems and networks, conducting regular diagnostics to ensure efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to service issues and support requests, providing technical assistance locally and remotely as required.
  • Provide technical onboarding support, including setting up accounts for new users and ensuring smooth transitions.
  • Track and anticipate the costs of replacing or upgrading IT equipment and software, providing recommendations for budget planning.
  • Ensure the studio’s systems meet security and compliance requirements, including monitoring security certificates and maintaining adherence to company and client standards (TPN and Disney).
  • Proactively identify and address potential vulnerabilities, ensuring robust protection of company data and networks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and support activities for reference and troubleshooting.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in an IT support role (experience in the VFX or animation industries is preferred).
  • Fundamentals: Strong working knowledge of relevant operating systems, software, and basic programming.
  • Expertise: Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to handle technical challenges effectively.
  • Management: Excellent organizational, time management, and task prioritization skills.
  • Collaboration: Strong communication skills, including clear and concise speaking, professional writing and active listening.

MATTE PAINTER/ ENVIRONMENT Artist

As a Matte Painter / Environment Artist, you will play a vital role in creating stunning digital environments, ranging from photo-realistic to stylized designs. Your expertise in 2.5D/2D combined with a keen photographic eye, will be instrumental in crafting complex imagery and immersive shots. This role demands a balance of technical proficiency and artistic creativity to deliver high-quality visuals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and create high-quality digital environments, ranging from photorealistic landscapes to stylized worlds that align with the artistic vision of the project.
  • Use 2.5D and 2D techniques to develop detailed photographic images and integrate them seamlessly into existing plates.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, leads, and other team members to ensure environments align with project requirements.
  • Maintain consistency in style and quality across all environment work while adhering to project deadlines.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize shot work ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging tools to bring innovative approaches to environment creation.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Matte Painter in the VFX or animation industries.
  • Portfolio/Showreel: A strong portfolio or showreel demonstrating exceptional artistic and technical skills.
  • Artistic Fundamentals: Comprehensive understanding of shape, light, color, composition, and perspective.
  • 3D Skills: Basic knowledge of 3D modeling, texturing/shading, lighting, and rendering workflows.
  • Compositing Expertise: Proficiency in compositing and camera mapping techniques.

SENIOR CG GENERALIST

As a CG Generalist, you will collaborate closely with Art Directors and Producers to develop efficient workflows that drive the success of each project. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and artistic judgment to create high-quality digital assets and environments. You will be responsible for crafting visuals that range from photorealistic to stylized. Your versatility and problem-solving skills will be essential in adapting to diverse tasks and delivering exceptional 3D results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Supervisors, Art Directors, and Producers to create high-quality assets and environments, ranging from photorealistic to stylized, that meet the artistic and technical requirements of the project.
  • Design and implement tools and workflows to support projects efficiently from concept through to final delivery.
  • Contribute to animation tasks as needed, while understanding that this role is not specialized in animation.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry tools, software and hardware trends to ensure the studio remains competitive and innovative in its technical and creative solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and technical support to team members, fostering their artistic and professional growth.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating strong initiative and problem-solving skills to maintain efficiency and meet deadlines, even under pressure.
  • Interpret artistic direction effectively and work from provided references to produce assets that align with the creative vision.
  • Identify and report technical challenges or roadblocks to Supervisors promptly, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently to avoid delays in production.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of assets and environments into the overall production pipeline.
  • Maintain organized documentation of workflows, tools, and processes.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

    • Experience: 5+ years as a CG Generalist in the VFX or animation industries.
    • Portfolio/Showreel: Strong artistic and technical skills demonstrated through a professional portfolio or showreel.
    • Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in modeling (including procedural modeling), texturing/shading, lighting, and rendering.
    • Attention to Detail: High-level attention to detail to ensure assets meet artistic and technical standards.
    • Software Experience: Hands-on experience with Houdini, Unreal Engine and Nuke.
    • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Time Management: Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
    • Location: Preference for candidates based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Junior Concept Artist

As a Junior Concept Artist, you will contribute to the conceptualization of characters, props, and environments that align with the project’s visual style. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your 2D and 3D skills while supporting the team’s creative process. You will work closely with Senior Artists and Leads, gaining valuable mentorship and experience across a variety of projects. With a focus on learning and growth, you’ll play an integral part in bringing imaginative worlds to life.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop semi-photorealistic and stylized concept designs based on written or verbal briefs, ensuring alignment with the project’s creative vision.
  • Prepare detailed specification sheets, including dimensions and design details.
  • Deliver work on schedule, proactively communicating challenges or delays with Leads and Supervisors to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Respond positively to feedback, incorporating personal and creative input to refine and enhance designs.
  • Maintain well-organized working files to ensure efficiency and accessibility for team members.
  • Embrace design challenges, iterations, and problem-solving with a proactive and creative approach.
  • Work closely with and follow the guidance of Leads and the Art Director, contributing to the team’s collective artistic goals.
  • Take opportunities to improve your skills and expand your knowledge of design tools, techniques, and industry trends.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Experience: 1+ years of experience as a Concept Artist in the VFX, animation, or gaming industries.
  • Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing a range of professional and personal artwork in both 2D and 3D mediums. 
  • Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of fundamental artistic principles, including shape, light, color, composition, and perspective.
  • Software Experience: Proficiency in Photoshop, with a demonstrated ability to create high-quality digital artwork.
  • Collaboration: Self-motivated, eager to learn, and open to feedback to continuously improve artistic and technical skills.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

SENIOR Concept Artist

As a Senior Concept Artist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the visual direction of our projects. Your primary responsibility will be to conceptualize highly detailed characters, props, and environments that align with and enhance the project’s unique style. You will bring creativity, versatility, and an exceptional eye for detail to world-building, contributing to the creation of immersive and visually compelling universes. Collaborating closely with Art Directors and other team members, you will help define and elevate the artistic vision for each project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop high-quality photo-realistic and stylized concept designs based on written or verbal briefs, ensuring alignment with Leads and the Art Director’s creative vision.
  • Create detailed specification sheets, including dimensions, design details, and visual references, to guide the production team effectively.
  • Deliver work on schedule, proactively communicating potential challenges or roadblocks with Leads and Supervisors.
  • Maintain well-organized and accessible working files to ensure efficient collaboration and production continuity.
  • Respond positively and proactively to feedback, providing creative and technical input during the visual development and design phases.
  • Mentor and support team members, offering guidance and instruction to help them grow artistically and professionally.
  • Clearly explain design concepts and articulate artistic choices, ensuring alignment with project goals and creative direction.
  • Embrace design challenges and iterations, proposing creative solutions to achieve the best possible results.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, techniques, and tools to bring fresh and innovative ideas to the project.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Experience: 6+ years of professional experience as a Concept Artist in the VFX, animation, or gaming industries.
  • Portfolio: Strong artistic and technical skills demonstrated through a professional portfolio.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of artistic principles, including shape, light, color, composition and perspective.
  • Time Management: Exceptional time management skills with a proven ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • 2D Software Experience: Advanced proficiency in Photoshop or Affinity, with the ability to create high-quality, professional-grade artwork.
  • 3D Software Experience: Strong foundational knowledge in 3D modeling, texturing/shading, lighting, and rendering using software like Blender or Maya.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, zoology, costuming, historical settings, and environments.
